There are several different flavours of VFR rear wheel that can be modified to fit the Hawk:
- 5.5", 8 spoke
- 5", 5 spoke
- The new 5.5", 5 spoke
I went with the 8 spoke, as the old
RC30
had these, but in 18" and white.
First, I sent the wheel off to be
modified,
as the VFR uses 4 mounting holes, where the Hawk uses one, with 4 locating holes.
Basically, they put steel collars into the larger VFR mounting holes to fit the Hawk
mounting pins, filled the front of these holes with aluminium and milled the centre
of the hole to match the Hawk spindle.
I then had both wheels powder coated 60% gloss
black.
I've fitted some new Metzeler Z3 tyres, in 120/70/17 on the
front wheel
and a 170/60/17 on the rear. I've since changed to Pirelli Diablos, as I never really fely confident on the Metzelers.
