Stranger in a strange land

When I got the Hawk, it had the standard turn signals. The stalks were droopy on the rear, so I replaced them with shorter ones, like you might find on a VF500. Hoopy. The thing is, after a few more years, those started to droop, and eventually, split. OK, this is getting silly.

Off I went to the local Buell dealer, and bought 2 left and 2 right rear turn signals (the only difference between front and rear is the stalk length / mounting) for the princely sum of $6.25 each. These have drain holes in the bottom - remember that when you get them all out and play with them, and can't remember which is which.

Firstly, I cut some washers to fit the rear Honda turn signal mounts, as the Buell signals have simpler mounts. I lengthened the wires on the left hand side, and voila!, fitted with M10x1.25 nuts holding them on - I'd expected SAE. Easy.
Then, I took the turn signals off the front, and took out the headlamp to plug in the new signals. I then took out the headlight mounting bolts, and used those to mount the new signals, like on a lot of the more modern nekkid bikes. Sweet
Here's the front, finished. Now, the turn signals will blink fast, so get thee out and buy 4 x 1156A amber lens bulbs. Take the lens off, and remove the amber insert. Put that, along with the weedy little 10W bulb, in your toolbox where it can get broken, and put in your new 23W replacement. This'll stop the flasher relay thinking you've blown a bulb, and blinking fast. It'll make your signals brighter, too.
You'll notice that you've lost the running lights on the front. I did get all smart, and think I could use the guts out of the front Buell turn signals, but upon inspection, these don't have running lights either. If it (or the police, maybe it's a law) bothers me, I'll rig something up involving solder and a twin filament (1157A?) bulb, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I've since been playing with LED bulbs.
